Für Alle, die die Stadt mögen
Mehr als nur eine Brücke
Die Lokalpresse wies auf das Jubiläum hin
(Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger 21./.22.5.2011, Seite 36)
Der Stadtverwaltung war das Jubiläum kein Brückenfest wert
Die KUNST Geschichte zu ignorieren

The bridge has witnessed a lot of history
Up to 1,500 trains cross it daily
For all who like the city
It is more than just a bridge
The local press pointed out the anniversary

But the city administration did not deem this anniversary worth a bridge festival

Wenn man den Rhein mag
Und schon viel über ihn gelesen hat
Doch nie dieses Buch las
Oder die Bilder Hugos dazu sah
Und der Schluß
Ganz aktuell:
"Wenige Schritte vom Rheinfall baut man Kalkstein ab, er ist sehr schön. Inmitten eines der Steinbrüche betrachtete ein Sträfling, gekleidet in grauschwarz gestreiftes Tuch, eine Hacke in der Hand, eine doppelte Kette am Fuß, den Wasserfall. Der Zufall scheint sich gelegentlich darin zu gefallen, in zuweilen melancholischen, zuweilen grauenvollen Gegensätzen dem Werk der Natur das Werk der Gesellschaft gegenüberzustellen."

A surprising book
When one likes the River Rhine
And has already read a lot about it
But has never read this book
Or saw Hugo's accompanying pictures
And the end
Very timely:
"A few steps away from the River Rhine Falls lime rock is broken, it is very beautiful. Amidst one of the quarries a convict, wearing grey-black striped cloth, a pick in one hand, a double chain on one foot, observed the waterfall. Occaisionally coincidence likes to indulge in contrasting with sometimes melancholy, sometimes harrowing contradictions the works of nature with the works of society."
